Blog #6

Class Pages
When I saw the prompt for this topic, I immediately knew I wanted to look at my elementary school's website (http://hitchcock.mpsomaha.org/home). Because I wanted to go into teaching a low grade, I looked at lower grades such as kindergarten and first grade. The aspect I loved most about these, were the "get to know the teacher" sections; these make parents feel more comfortable communicating with the teacher and trusting their students' education with them. It was also interesting to see many of the technological communications we've learned in this class applied such as blogs and twitters. All the information about the instructor and typical schedule was very beneficial as well.

Digital Divide
The digital divide has become an increasingly important topic as technology advances. Access to technology varies significantly and affects the educational sector. We see that in many low socioeconomic areas, access is unavailable and affects the schools from gaining knowledge, practicing, and achieving national standards. As a teacher, it is important to keep this in mind and give grace to students who are not as privileged; to provide them with alternatives and extensions. They will be learning the same material and standards, but according to what they have access to.

EME Twitter
I have found twitter for educational use interesting and informative. This project has allowed me to connect with organizations, applications, and websites I would not have known about otherwise. These will be extremely useful to me when I do enter the professional sector as it has broadened my horizons. While it is hard communicating with a group you do not know well, it has become easier as we all have education and technology as interests.

Comments

  1. I really enjoyed looking over the teachers website you found! There were a lot of great ideas that I could see myself using in the future on a web page of my own. I also agree that using the twitter account for this class has helped us to learn and communicate with others who understand what we are going through!

  3. This is crazy! I feel like everyone else's class pages that they found are relatively so informative and useful as compared to the one I found. I love Twitter specifically because of that, it really is a place where one can bounce ideas off of other people so easily. It is an easy place to grow in career wise. I really enjoyed reading your post! Looking forward to reading more.
