Online Learning Experience
Last year, my high school implemented what we called E-Learning Days. This is when we went over the limit of built in snow days for the yearly academic calendar and had to make up days online. Our teachers would post lectures ad assignments through Google Classroom where it would be do two classes later. I thought this was a great alternative to lengthening the school year into the summer. However, there was more confusion this was as you could not ask questions in person and introducing a new and complex topic was difficult. While this was more asynchronous communication, it has synchronous aspects to it through the technological means it was transmitted.

Open Educational Resources
Open educational resources (OER) are resources that are accessible to the majority of people in relations to copyright. This includes word art, textbooks or published articles, videos, etc. This is extremely useful in school and for educators. Dian Schaffhauser does a great job at finding examples of this on campustechnology.com (https://campustechnology.com/articles/2014/07/02/16-oer-sites-every-educator-should-know.aspx) which include a wide variety and how educators can utilize these sites. I believe that these are great tools that educators can utilize for their students' benefits.

Newsletter Reflection
I had an amazing time creating a newsletter for my "kindergarten class". I was able to not only learn a new way to effectively communicate with parents and guardians, but also let my inner artist out. Newsletters can help student retention through at home activities with their family while also keeping parents up to date. I also saw many examples of personalized newsletters where you can include a report card or behavior chart for each individual student! Newsletters are a very creative idea that I loved and find very valuable for the classroom and for parents to be involved and informed. In the future, I would like to integrate more color into the newsletter, but I believe this is a goof first go at one :)

  1. Morgan, great post! Also, your Newsletter is very well put together and professional! I think that the E-Learning days that your high school implemented are very interesting. They seem like a great way to incorporate lessons into time outside of school to students. I do understand; however, how there could be lots of confusion with that system. I think that if your high school continues to implement that strategy, it will become less confusing for teachers and students as everyone becomes more familiar with the system! There is always some learning curve that comes with new technology!

  2. Hi Morgan!!
We used e-learning days at my high school too! They were very beneficial for snow days so we would not have to make up school. We used a program called Schoology which was very similar to canvas. I also really liked the site you linked, I had never heard of those sites but I think they would be really useful if I was to teach in the future!

  3. Hey Morgan,
I found the E-Learning days that your school implemented to be really interesting. I've always lived in Florida, so we never had to worry about snow days, but I imagine that they put a monkey wrench in the scheduled curriculum, so the E-Learning day seems like a great way to mitigate those interruptions. It sucks that those days can be confusing but I think with proper training, it could help stop the majority of the confusion. Overall, you had a great article!
