Data Use as a Teacher
As a teacher, I see myself using data collection a lot. It would help me monitor my students' retention and improve my lesson plans for the future. As I'm going into elementary education, preferably as low as possible, it would help me see where the students are in comparison to the benchmarks/ standards they must meet. My data collection would also help me see what areas the parents would like to focus on and help them become involved in their child's education.
The Flipped Classroom
The flipped classroom is a classroom in which, in essence, the classwork is taught at home through digital instruction and the homework is done during class time. This allows the students to work at their own pace and for parents to be included and be able to help their kids. During class time, the students practice what they learned and put the skills to use. This allows the teacher to be able to answer questions during the application aspect instead of having their studets do multiple problems confused or incorrectly.
Technology Interest
I am not a very tech-savvy person and don't know much about the latest models released of certain programs. However, I know that it is important to keep up to date on these and I want to improve in this aspect. One tool I am interested in becoming more experienced in is photoshop. I believe it would be a great tool to use in multiple aspects- especially entertaining my students. Another, more educational, tool I wish to learn is online art tools; as technology increases, so does this aspect and I believe students would benefit from experimenting with it.

Instructor's Blog
I found it interesting to look back at the second blog and see the transition. I noticed that, at least for me, these projects seemed more creative and hands on. I could see how far I grew in the technological aspect and therefore could do more concerning the applications. IT's great to see how far we've come in this class and witness all the amazing ways we can utilize technology as instructors.

Morgan,
ReplyDeleteWhen I was thinking of data collection I immediately thought of older students. It is a great idea to also use it for younger to ensure they are on the right track. Great post!
Morgan!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it could be very helpful to have the flipped classroom method in order to help make sure the students understand the application base of the lesson. I know from personal experience this would have made a huge difference in my learning as a student! Great post!
Hey Morgan! I think the way that you would use the excel sheets to monitor your students progress is a great idea. I did not even think of that but it is so smart to be able to keep it all in one place. Plus once you get a decent bit of data you could create a graph to see if they are increasing or decreasing. Photoshop is a great idea when trying to learn more about educational technology. I feel like it would be a good asset to have in the classroom - to even teach the kids how to use it!
ReplyDeleteI like your thoughts on you would use Excel in your teaching. As a possibly aspiring high school teacher, it's always interesting how to-be elementary teachers respond to such questions. I also find it interesting that you chose Photoshop and online art tools as the kind of tech you want to learn more about for education. That's not what comes to mind for most people, but it can certainly come in handy (:
ReplyDeleteI find it very interesting you want to learn about Photoshop! I'm not really sure of the benefits it can have in the classroom, but maybe you can show us how one day. Entertainment definitely makes the most sense in trying to use it. Nice work! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan!
ReplyDeleteI like your mention of utilizing data collection to determine the benchmarks each student has achieved, thats a great point! Also, your point on photoshop was great! I actually said the same thing! I feel photoshop is an amazing tool, its just a little diffcult to learn!
Great post!
Hi Morgan! I enjoyed reading your thoughts about the Flipped Classroom and how it could prevent students from doing numerous problems incorrectly. This can be very frustrating to students and they might give up on something like math homework. It is important to help our students form correct habits in things like math and aid them throughout the process of learning.
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan! I really enjoyed reading your post this week and your take on the questions asked. I similarly discussed how the flipped classroom is the reverse of what we do in typical classrooms, and found this concept interesting with pros and cons to it. I love your idea of learning how to use photoshop more as this is a skill I'm eager to learn more about as well. Good job!
